- Hi MacAppers,
-
- My name is Ken Addison and I am the person (sucker?) who is the successor to
- Kurt Schmucker as Class Librarian (formerly called Object Librarian) for the
- MacApp Developers’ Association (MADA). He has gotten very busy with what sounds
- like an important project within Apple and was “kind” enough to let me pick up
- this function. Gee, thanks Kurt (in a monotone).
-
- The full function the Class Librarian is still being defined as the MacApp
- world is evolving, but basically he is responsible for soliciting for Class
- Library (i.e. Units, Building Blocks) contributions, maintaining a database of
- the current and future Units and provide a registration of Class names and
- 4-byte Identifiers (as used for template views in 2.0ß5 and later) sort of like
- Apple’s DTS of DogCow fame registers File Types and Application Signatures.
-
- I welcome any assistant from you in the form of ideas and suggestions. Feel
- free to link this ALink address D0416 with what may be on your mind. Some
- people have already made very good suggestions.
-
- Right now I am collecting what I’m calling a "Building Block Hit List". This
- Hit List is a compilation of the most popular Building Blocks that the MacApp
- community would like to use in their software development. For instance, Apple
- already has provided a UDialog, UTEView and UGridView Building Blocks in the
- MacApp product you got from APDA. I am also designing a relational database to
- help us track and inter-relate all this info.
-
- What other Building Blocks would you like to see and use? I will solicit for
- the development and contributions of those Building Blocks from the MacApp
- community and even the MacApp team at Apple. (They probably don’t have enough
- to do anyway, right Steve & Steve?)
-
- Oh well, this Link is getting a little long so I’ll shut-up until early next
- week with some more stuff. Again, I’m open for any and all suggestions (good
- ones or crazy ones).
-
- Until then, -Ken Addison
-
- PS: Should Links of this nature go only to MACAPP.NEW$ or MACAPP.TECH$ or both?
- I want to reach all concerned without adding too much to ALink overload.
